Home of Lady Statesmen softball since 1992, University Field has undergone several renovations throughout the years to make it one of the top softball complexes in the Gulf South Conference.
The 500-seat facility features one of the top playing surfaces in NCAA Division II, a state-of-the-art press box, wireless Internet, restroom and concession facilities, lights and the locker room for DSU’s softball program.
In the summer of 2008, University Field underwent major renovations. DSU increased the size of each dugout and built a larger restroom and concessions facility to the south of the current grandstand. In addition, new locker rooms were built.
University Field was once again renovated in the summer of 2015 when Diamond Design and Construction, Inc., began work on improving the playing surface at University Field. As part of the renovations, the entire infield was completely reconstructed, addressing some long standing needs at the facility.
Diamond Design, which also took part in the 2013 reconstruction of the infield grass, clay and foul territory at Ferriss Field, has completed work for many minor league baseball organizations, colleges and high schools. Charles Brunetti, owner of Diamond Design, has worked as an Assistant Director of Grounds for the Boston Red Sox. He was also the Assistant Sports Turf Manager at Mississippi State University.
Known for its atmosphere and tailgating experience, DSU’s University Field features two outfield decks for cooking and fellowship during each home game. These opportunities are on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Delta State softball’s unofficial fan club, the “Deck Crew” can be found wondering the outfield wall in the decks. To learn more about the fan club, contact DSU softball at (662) 846-4288.
